CURTAINS, VENETIAN BLINDS OR PERFECT FIT BLINDS?

Are you unsure how to "dress" your patio doors? If you like to be able to open the doors without pulling back the blinds, then Perfect Fit Blinds are the answer as they clip inside the frame without damaging the doors, and the blinds stay in place when the doors are opened or closed. (Check out my Blinds page for examples) The next alternative is Horizontal Venetian Blinds, when open they stack at the top of the doors, and can be light adjusted by partially or fully lowering the blinds. Another alternative is Vertical Venetian Blinds where one blind can be fitted to pull across the doors when closed or stack to one side when the doors are open.  Blinds could be added with Curtains so that the blinds can be light adjusted to stop glare, sunshine or for security without disturbing the curtains, and if you prefer, closing the blinds at night with or without pulling the curtains closed. More alternatives are Roman Blinds and an example is shown in the images at the top of the page, and the least expensive are Roller Blinds with a blackout finish so that when partially or fully lowered they cut out most of the light.

ROMAN BLIND COMBINED WITH A VENETIAN BLIND

White Venetian Blinds are still the most popular for any window style, straight, bay or patio doors and can be light adjusted. Also available in a range of colours and finishes  aluminium, faux wood, or wood.  Curtains can be added to the same window so that when they are drawn on dark evenings they give a cosy look to any room, and there are a huge amount of different patterns and colours to choose from, plus they can have a blackout lining or thermal lining. The other alternative is a Roman Blind to give finish and style to the window and can be partially lowered or fully lowered to give security or block out the light with a blackout lining and again come in a range of pattered or plain colours

THE ADVANTAGE OF VOILE FABRIC CURTAINS

When it comes to the benefits of Voile Curtains, they strike a perfect balance between privacy and natural light; Choose from classic white or coloured voile fabric and they will compliment various interior styles and work well in living rooms, bedrooms and even kitchens. Voile curtains can be pulled across the window to give a soft draped finish as despite their sheer appearance they really do give privacy. Heavier curtains can also be used so that the voiles can be left in place and the heavier curtains can be pulled across the window in the evening to keep the room cosy. Voile curtains do not need expensive dry cleaning, simply put each curtain into the washing machine, so as not to overload and cause creasing, set to a delicate short wash if possible 15 minutes, do not put into a tumble dryer, as once they are carefully washed they will remain crisp and fresh and can be rehung into the windows.

CURTAINS OR BLINDS

Are you unsure whether to choose Curtains or Blinds for your windows? Both can give you different options. The Blinds can be light adjusted to cut out the glare from the sun when working at a computer or watching television and in the evening offer security whilst in the winter  you may prefer to add a cosy look to your room by drawing the curtains.

When planning your home decor, there are so many different fabrics to choose from, plain or patterned in a vast range of colours and finishes depending on your room. Roller blinds are very practical for kitchens, bathrooms and offices. Roman Blinds pulled up into folds for a small window give extra interest, and Perfect Fit Blinds are suitable for uPVC doors and windows as they clip into the frame without any screws. Many new build houses have bay windows, and the most popular blinds are still Vertical or Venetian in pure white. Curtains with eyelets can be hung on an attractive pole, or if you prefer pinch pleat curtains hung on tracking with an attractive matching or contrast Pelmet give a  more traditional decor.

BLACKOUT  BLINDs AND CURTAINS

Are the light nights keeping you awake or are you waking up too early in the morning?  The answer is to have Blackout blinds or Curtains with blackout lining to keep the room dark.  The blackout treatment cannot be seen, and the curtain lining is the normal natural colour but blackout treated. The other advantage is that you may be watching TV or using your computer and the light is reflecting on the screen, well all you need to do is close the blinds sufficient to deflect the sunlight, either manually or with a motorised handset. I have a blackout roller blind in my sitting room, as well as curtains, and in the evening when the light is on in the room, I simply pull down the roller blind without drawing the curtains and no-one outside can see into the room.

This week we supplied & fitted, for a happy customer, a handmade pelmet in a stunning fabric together with a roller blind in a contrast fabric . we can create a professional finish to your curtains and blinds by adding a pelmet, custom made in wood with fire retardant padding then lined and finished in a choice of fabric that can be matching or contrast to curtains and blinds. Various designs available. to give added interest we can also add piping, fringing or accessories.  Pelmets also hide the tracks and improve the widow decor.

ROLLER BLINDS ARE PRACTICAL FOR ALL ROOMS

Roller Blinds, custom made, are ideal  for all window sizes and you can chose from a large range of various designs and colours to suit all of your rooms. We can add a blackout finish to cut out the light for bedrooms, bathrooms or children's rooms.  Our customer in Olney wanted a design of the New York skyline and as this is a large window it makes a feature in the room. Another idea to cut out the sun light glare on a computer screen or TV is to have a combination of a roller blind and curtains at the window so that the blind can be partially lowered to stop the glare.

  VENETIAN BLINDS AND CURTAINS FOR A BAY WINDOW

Many new build houses have a bay window and we usually recommend a venetian blind that can be light adjusted for day or night, combined with short or full length curtains , as this gives flexibility to be able to close the blinds for security or to stop glare without needing to draw the curtains. For our customer in a newbuild house in Bedford we supplied and fitted, made to measure curtains and blinds. The curtains have a eyelet heading and are hung on a satin silver pole with round finial end pieces. When we visit you in your home  to discuss your requirements we can show you a large range of fabrics, poles and accessories to suit all budgets, and if you would like to place an order, we will arrange a fitting date. We do not use any sub-contractors and all work is guaranteed.
